Indian Institute of Science

Set up in 1904 by Jamshedji Tata, the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore is among the oldest research institutes in India. IISc is located in a quite corner of Malleswaram, and has one of the most conducive environments for education and research. Currently IISc is one of the premier research institutes in the country. IISc is primarily a post-graduate institution which offers lots of opportunities in various areas of engineering and sciences. In the earlier years, the concentration of research was in the areas of basic sciences. Today research is being carried out in basic sciences as well as applied sciences and technology. The institute has various departments, centers and units which carry out various functions, ranging from basic research to applied research, teaching full time students to advancing the knowledge of employed professionals. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited- more familiarly known by the acronym HAL- carries a heavy burden of responsibility towards the Indian armed forces, for the HAL factories spread across the sub continent collectively produce a major proportion of the aircraft upon which they depend to meet their commitments to national defence. HAL has built over 3000 aircraft of which about 95 per cent have been for the IAF. These comprising 20 different types of which 11 were of indigenous design. From the most advanced combat aircraft, through trainers and transport aircraft to helicopters. HAL with its products and services fully engaged, in providing the backbone around which the IAF has built a tough physical presence, well able to take care of the multifarious tasks demanded of it.
HAL has produced the bulk of the fighters, medium and light transports, helicopters and trainers required by the IAF, Earlier programmes that included production of the MiG-21 at Nasik and Maruts, Gnats and Ajeets at Bangalore then gave way to permit HAL to handle the MiG-27 and the jaguar at these two centres, respectively, while work continued on the Kiran II armed trainer at Bangalore but the HPT-32 is being phased out at Kanpur. 

  SERC

The Supercomputer Education and Research Centre (SERC) has been established at the Indian Institute of Science, located in the city of Bangalore (India) to provide state-of-the-art computing facility to the faculty and students of the Institute. The Centre is conceived of as a functionally distributed supercomputing environment, housing leading-edge computing systems, with sophisticated software packages, and connected by a powerful high-speed network. The computing facilities are connected to the Internet and are accessible from the world over. The Centre is created and fully funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of the Institute.
