Kolkata
Kolkata – the capital of West Bengal preserves the aura of British days, weaving the past and the present to form a charming fabric. Kolkata is a city of joy, where the heritage hunters can discover a blend of old and new. The political capital of British India has now become one of the largest metropolises of the world. It is the perfect gateway to Eastern and North- Eastern India and to the Far East. Situated on the banks of the river Hooghly, the city is a magnificent portrait of architectural monuments and palaces of historic importance. It is a homeland of thousands of great souls of the nation; some time called as the cultural and intellectual capital of India. The city holds some of the country’s prime sites - the massive Howrah Bridge, Victoria Memorial, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Eden Gardens, Kalighat temple and the bustling streets which are infectious and spirit sweeping.
 
Siliguri
Siliguri, situated in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas is an important town of North Bengal and is also the gateway to the hill stations of Darjeeling and Kalimpong. It was once a calm provincial town with quite streets and well equipped shops, where tea planters would come to stock up on provisions. Today it has grown to a modern town with all essential facilities. Siliguri is famous for three T’s – Tea, Timber and Tourism. Siliguri hosts many international Buddhist conferences and also serves as a transit point to Jaldapara Wildlife sanctuary. Half an hour drive from Siliguri in any direction will lead you to the natural environs where you will find vast tea gardens, forests and mountains. Staying at Siliguri for few days is quite healthy and enjoyable. The climatic condition is salubrious throughout the year. But tourists are advised to visit the place in between December and February as the winter is more pleasant than other seasons.
 
Darjeeling
The hill town of Darjeeling derives its name from the monastery Dorje Ling, meaning place of Thunderbolt. The British had chosen this Himalayan Foothills to build a sanatorium in the 19th century. Soon it became the summer capital of Bengal owing to its salubrious climate. Today, much of Darjeeling’s Raj splendour is still in evidence and synonymous with its Tibetan, Nepali and Bengali character. This picturesque hill station squats rather precariously on the hillside, and has three main thoroughfares, Hill Cart Road, Laden Road and The mall.
