North Eastern View India's Trekking Destinations

Season

The best Season is from October to February. For the energetic leisure seeker keen to undertake a rare wilderness experience, few destinations in the world would match the dimension of Arunachal Pradesh.

Getting There

By Air : Nearest airport is Tezpur which is connected with daily flights by Indian Airlines from Calcutta

By Rail : The nearest railhead is North Lakhimpur in Assam 60 kms from Itanagar

By Road : Itanagar is connected by road the other state capital in the North East. Guwahati 138 kms, Shillong 481 kms,Imphal 495 kms and Calcutta 1539kms. Bus services run from Itanagar to Bomdila

Southern Flanks

The southern flank of the Arunachal Himalaya is visible from the plains. This part of the range include peaks as secluded as Kangot among the highest unclimbed faces in the world. Five of the main tributries of the Brahmaputra rise in these ranges:the Kamenjg, Subansiri, Siang, Lohit and Tirap. It has an international border with Bhutan, China and Burma

Select tourist routes

Certain tourist routes have recently been opened in Arunachal Pradesh. In an area as pristine and as delicate as this wide spread endorsment is accorded to carrying capacity and environmental safeguards.
The first of these routes originates at Itanagar and links up with Ziro in the center of the state 150 kms away at an altitude of 1754 meters in the replendent Apatani plateau. The trail pushes farthest east and north, crossing the Subansiri river at Daporijo to reach Along. Here we meet that peripatetic harbinger of Mansarovar, the Siang - still within its white water section. The final section of this circuit goes down stream to Pasighat and re-enters north Assam before returning to Itanagar.

Margherita Railhead

The second tourism circuit covers the well known Namdapha National park in the Triap district near the east end of the state, not far from the Burmese border. The designated entry and exit point on this circuit is the railhead at Marghertia also reached by National Highway 38 from Tinsukia. Coaches continue to Miao for entry in to the park. Uniqueness is that the elevation varies between 200 and 4500 meters. The park is also unmatched as the home to four of the large cats : tiger, leapord, clouded leapord and snow leapord

For Indian Tourists

An Indian National intending to visit any part of the state may obtain an Inner Line permit from the Arunachal Government office in Delhi or Itanagar. For the permitted areas, the total time allowed for the foreigners is 10 days. The usual stipulations of entry permit, group size and advance application also hold good. These can be filed with any Indian Mission overseas, the Home Commissioner of the state in Itanagar or its Resident Commissioner in Delhi
